National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day 2022
Ever since Congress designated the day as National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day in 1994, December 7th has been recognized as the day on which American citizens across the nation come together to honor and mourn the 2,403 lives lost in the attack on Pearl Harbor.
The attack itself took place on December 7, 1941 during the second World War. In addition to the lives taken, 1,178 people were injured, 188 aircraft were destroyed, and two naval ships, the USS Arizona and the USS Utah were sunk among other vessels damaged and/or sunk.
The attack resulted in a sense of unity, and many argue that this was the pivotal moment that led to the United States’ direct aid to the allied powers on the war front. For the full story, pick up a copy of the Mountain Home News or click on this link to subscribe to the newspaper’s online edition.
