Emma Jean Rowe Leydet

Emma Jean Rowe Leydet (age 100) passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, in Boise, Idaho, with family at her side. Viewing will be held starting at 4 P.M.to Rosary on Friday, May 13, with Rosery starting at 6:00 P.M. at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 14, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Mountain Home. Following the burial family and friends are invited to a lunch at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Hall.

Jean was born June 21, 1921, in American Falls, Idaho, to Lila & Thomas Rowe. After high school she attended nursing school at St. Anthony’s in Pocatello. Jean met Henry Leydet while in nursing school and they were married in1942 and moved to Mountain Home where they farmed and ranched. Together they raised 5 children.

Henry’s father Joseph Leydet lived with them until his death in 1971. Jean always told how influential “Pop” was in teaching her to cook using his French influence. As a result, she became an excellent cook and good food was an important part of her life, preparing large family meals in addition to meals for many hired hands. Jean had a “green thumb” and an “artist’s eye”. She enjoyed painting (completing her last painting 2 weeks ago), line dancing, reading, gardening, daily walks, swimming, sewing, knitting, cooking, fishing & camping with family & friends in addition to travel. She always delighted in her family and extended family get-togethers.

Jean was an active volunteer at Elmore County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Group for over 20 years. In addition, she was active in The Alter Society and Mother Cabrini at Our Lady of Good Council Catholic Church in Mountain Home. She belonged to and was honored by The Mountain Home Historical Society “Women of the Year”. In addition, Henry & Jean were active in Grange and Elks Lodge.

There were many changes in their lives in 1961: the addition of their 5th child and a move onto the ranch North of town where they lived and ranched until retirement. Jean loved being a wife, mother and homemaker.

During retirement Jean & Henry enjoyed being “snow birds” traveling to Arizona in the winter; Anderson Ranch Dam and the Stanley Basin during the summer in their 5th wheel. After Henry’s death she spent many winters in California and Arizona continuing to enjoy the warm weather. Jean loved to travel and enjoyed trips to Belize, Guatemala, Alaska, Mexico, Canada and throughout the North and South Western U.S. In 2008 Jean moved to Twin Falls to be near 2 of her daughters and made many new friends.

Jean leaves behind four daughters: Joanne Johnson (Larry), Betty Baumgart (Greg), Barbara Beck (Jerry), Janine Leydet Roeser. She had 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry in 1999, Ron Leydet in 2010 in addition to all 8 of her siblings.
