Carolyn Rose Schilz
Carolyn Rose Schilz, age 84, of Mountain Home passed away at home on June 14, 2021. A memorial service will be held at Rost Funeral, Home McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home, on Thursday July 15, 2021 at 10:30 am.
Carolyn was born May 7, 1937 in Prosser, Nebraska, the oldest of three children. The family moved to Sydney, Nebraska when she was very young where she graduated from Sydney High School. Carolyn then married Mark F. Schilz on June 4, 1955. Mark and Carolyn had four kids (Nick, Cathy, Tony, Chris) all born in Sydney. They moved to Mountain Home on May 7, 1966.
Carolyn was a cook for Mountain Home School District where she eventually became the kitchen manager of MHAFB Primary School, until she retired. Her Cooks Association became known for their World Famous Cinnamon Rolls as a yearly fund raiser. Some groups would order as many as 200 DOZEN Cinnamon Rolls at a time. The fund raisers would help their Cooks Association attend National School Lunch Cooks Conventions. Their fund raiser was so popular that they were able to pay 100% of the trip for all who attended the convention.
Mark and Carolyn became Camp Hosts at Dog Creek Campground in the Mountain Home Ranger District, where they were hosts for 9 summers. During this time, they made so many lifelong friends, and memories (such as fire wood collecting and family water fights).
After Carolyn retired they became Snowbirds, going to Yuma Arizona, to enjoy the warm weather. They quickly became well known for their pot lucks, game days, and Toddy time, with friend and neighbors. At times hosting as many as 40 people for their holiday pot luck. Their tent became affectionately known as “Party Central”. Mark and Carolyn were able to enjoy the Yuma warm winter weather for 22 years.
Carolyn is survived by her husband Mark Schilz, children Nick (Carole), Cathy, Tony, Chris (Jacquilyn). 14 grandkids, 21 great grandkids, 2 great great grandkids. Also survived by her sister Fereda, and her brother Steven.
