MHHS Talkin’ Tigers continue winning, qualifying for National tournament
Four members of the Mountain Home Talkin Tigers Speech and Debate team earned bids to the National Individual Events Tournament of Champions with their efforts at the recent Rocky Mountain Invitational Tournament in Meridian. Joshua Johnson, Wendi Goldthorpe, Oam Patel and Zachary Warren all earned bids to the NIETOC tournament to be held in Houston, Texas in May 2020.
Johnson and Goldthorpe won the Duo Interpretation event at Rocky Mountain to earn the bid. Both are second year Talkin’ Tigers. Patel and Warren finished second and third in Extemporaneous Speaking to earn their bids to the Tournament Of Champions.
Patel, who was in the top 25 in the country last year in Lincoln Douglas Debate, also continued his local dominance in that event by taking first place at the Rocky Mountain Tournament. Patel won six of seven rounds to win his second consecutive tournament and move his record to 12-1 this year.
Other notable finishes by MHHS Talkin’ Tigers include: The Duo Interpretation team of Mersadie Kimmel and Khylan Stubblefield finished third at the tournament. Novice Lillian Nhok was a top speaker in Lincoln Douglas Debate.
