Winthrop Osborn
Winthrop "Windy" B. Osborn, 84, of Mountain Home, Idaho, passed away in the early morning of Jan. 10, 2018 at a care center in Mountain Home. A funeral service will be held Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018, 10 a.m., at the First Congregational Church in Mountain Home. A graveside service with Military Honors will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
Windy was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He liked to talk and had a unique sense of humor. He had a love of all things pertaining to Railroading and shared his knowledge freely.
Windy was born in Weymouth, Massachusetts on Feb. 19, 1933, son of George R. and Rachel H. Strathdee Osborn of Braintree, Massachusetts. He attended school in Braintree, graduating from Braintree High School in 1951. He went on to attend Boston University, graduating in 1953.
That same year he enlisted in the United States Air Force. On Aug. 11, 1956 he married his high school sweetheart, Marlene Scholz. To this union were born a son Wayne and a daughter Wanda.
His family followed him throughout his career in the military where he served on many bases throughout the United States, as well as in Japan, Okinawa, Thailand and Vietnam.
In 1974, after 21 years of service, he retired from the Air Force. After his retirement, he and Marlene purchased R & R Hobby Shop, a hobby/craft store, in Mountain Home, Idaho and spent 26 years as owners/operators until they finally retired in 2000.
Windy was a long time member of the First Congregational Church in Mountain Home, where he served on the Board of Trustees, the Diaconate board and in various other capacities.
While stationed at MHAFB, he worked with the Cub Scouts. When stationed in Okinawa and California he was active with the Boy Scouts.
He was a member of the Mountain Home Chamber of Commerce and the Military Affairs Committee.
He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, the Rebekahs, and the Encampment. He served as Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Idaho, IOOF in 2008.
Windy was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Marlene of Mountain Home; children, Wayne Osborn (Aileen) of Bonaire, Georgia and Wanda Clagg (Randy) of Payette, Idaho; grandsons, Jeffrey Loosli (Marcelita) of Hailey, Idaho and Jeremy Loosli (Michaela) of Mountain Home, Idaho; great-grandchildren, Emmalita, Farryn, Everly and Jocelyn.
