WECRD board recall petition deemed valid
Petitions aimed at recalling two of the Western Elmore County Recreation District's directors continues to move forward after the county elections office verified that both petitions contained enough valid signatures.
In April, a group of citizens known as the Friends for Recreation launched the recall petition with the stated purpose to remove board president Art Nelson and board vice president Judy Mayne from their elected positions.
According to county elections officer Vivian Garcia, both petitions each contained more than 1,700 signatures. To put the initiative on the ballot in time for the Nov. 7 election, The Friends for Recreation group needed a minimum of 1,249 valid signatures.
