Taking a stand against cancer...
Representatives with the Elmore County Relay for Life are joined by employees with the Mountain Home Wal-Mart as they present a check for $6,249 to benefit this year's cancer awareness event. Sponsorships and additional team donations allowed the local retailer to raise money for the American Cancer Society during the 2016 Relay for Life. This year's event runs from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. June 10 in Carl Miller Park. Events like the annual relay give "the chance for participation to do something in memory of a survivor or someone who lost the battle," said Karen Beisner, a representative with the American Cancer Society. People in the local area have a chance to honor the memory of loved one battling the disease or lost the fight against cancer during a survivor lunch, which runs from 1 to 3 p.m. April 8 at the Moose Lodge in Glenns Ferry. In 2016, the Elmore County American Cancer Society partners raised more than $44,000 to benefit the national cancer organization.
