Gloria DeThorne
Gloria Jean (Marlow) DeThorne (Grandma Pine) age 75 of Mountain Home, passed away at Kuna Living Center on Oct. 19, 2016. A small memorial service will be held on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016, at 1:30 p.m. at the Christian & Baptist Church in Mountain Home, 265 North 4th East St., in Mountain Home. Cremation was under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.
Gloria spent her youth growing up in Wendell, Idaho, and graduated from Wendell High in 1959. She then graduated from Links School of Business.
She married Ken DeThorne in 1961 in Boise. She had several secretarial positions throughout her career, including a very long and productive career working at Boise Cascade then with the Boise Company. She was very active in the Professional Secretaries Association for a number of years, including President of the Boise Chapter in 1972 and 73.
Ken and Gloria bought Pine Resort on Anderson Ranch Reservoir in 1983 where they operated the bar and cafe for 10 years. There is where Gloria will always be remembered as Grandma Pine. Ken and Gloria resided in the Pine/Featherville area until they moved to Mountain Home in 2000.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister and her husband, Ken. She is survived by her two sons, Ken Jr. and Don; her sister, Barbra Taylor; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, it is asked that a donation be made to either the Pine/Featherville EMS, 385 North Alpine Circle, Pine, ID 83647, or the Boise River Senior Center, 350 North Pine-Featherville Rd., Pine, ID 83647.
