High school names Tigers' new head wrestling coach
In an announcement last week, Mountain Home High School announced the new head coach for the Tigers' wrestling team.
Scott Mederios will take over the program from Lynn Knudson, who will step down following a 25-year career with the Tigers, including 23 years as its head coach.
"I consider it a privilege to take over the Mountain Home wrestling program," Mederios said. "I have been an assistant for 20 years and loved every second of it."
Mederios is now looking forward to the challenge of being the team's head coach.
"I'm excited about the wrestlers who are coming back next year as well as the new, young guys that will step up for us," he said.
Mederios played football, baseball and wrestled for the Tigers from 1983 to 1986. He then went on to wrestle for Boise State University from 1986 to 1989.
His coaching career began at Boise High School, where he headed the school's wrestling and football teams for five years. He then returned to Mountain Home where he served as the wrestling team's assistant coach the past 20 years.
Over the years, he also coached the school's football, baseball and golf teams.
"Coach Mederios takes a lot of pride in being a Mountain Home Tiger, and he has played an essential role in the rise of the Mountain Home wrestling program," said high school athletic director Mark Cotton. "I could not be more excited for him to have this opportunity as he has put numerous hours in with our wrestlers at Mountain Home High School over the years."
Cotton called Mederios a "high character guy" and a person that build great relationships between the players.
"He has been a tremendous mentor to thousands of student athletes at Mountain Home High School over the years," Cotton said. "I know that he will continue to grow the Mountain Home wrestling program."
