Teen injured in accidental shooting

A Mountain Home teen was injured Friday afternoon in what city police are calling an accidental shooting.

City officers responded to the emergency room at St. Luke's Elmore Medical Center around 3 p.m. regarding reports that the 16 year old male had shot himself in the leg.

According to a press release from the city police department, the teen was handling a .40 caliber handgun owned by a relative when the weapon discharged.

The teen, whose name was withheld by police, was listed in stable condition and is expected to be transported to a Boise area hospital for treatment. Police have not filed any charges in connection with the incident.

  • I think its about time we start having lessons in jr high school on how to handle and fire small arms. I'll support a levy to fund that.

  • I agree. Gun safety should be required in this state. Knowledge is power and gun safety is a precious privilege. Everytime this happens, it gives those who want to take away our right to bear arms more fire-power.

  • No doubt,all individuals should be educated on firearm safety. First it is the parents job to teach their children about guns whether they have some in their home or not.
