School districts in Mountain Home and Glenns Ferry will see new trustees on their school boards after incumbents lost their seats during Tuesday's elections.

County wide, elections officials reported a total of just 702 ballots counted in nine different races, which included local taxing districts, according to preliminary information released by the Elmore County Courthouse.

Mountain Home School Board President Jim Alexander lost to Eric Abrego in the race for Trustee Zone 5. Voters gave the challenger 227 votes with Alexander receiving 84.

The race was closer in Trustee Zone 3 where Ralph Binion III won by 59 percent over incumbent Richard Checketts. Binion received 28 votes with Checketts gaining 19.

Meanwhile, Jack Walborn gained the seat in Trustee Zone 1 after he ran unopposed in that race. That election was cancelled after Toni Reynolds stepped down from her seat on the school board.

In the Glenns Ferry School District, Dawn "Dawni" Bryant gained a 63 percent advantage over incumbent Kelly Riggs for the Trustee Zone 4 seat. Bryant received 57 votes with Riggs gaining 33.

In Trustee Zone 3, Donna Fain won after she received 37 votes with incumbent Teri Crone earning 33. Fain ran as a write-in candidate in that race.

The seat in Glenns Ferry School District's Trustee Zone 2 came down to just two votes with Marilyn Peak earning 28 votes with Victoria Wilcox picking up 26 and Neil Colwell had two.

Additional election coverage will appear in the May 27 edition of the Mountain Home News.

  • Congrats to the new school district trustees. It would be interesting to see if this is a normal turnout for a one item, school board only election. It seemed pretty good to me in Zone 5!

  • I think this is a glaring wake-up call, at least for the school boards. Throw your personal agendas aside and do what is best for the kids, your real constituents...who don't even have a vote. Be managers, not manipulators, or we will replace you. If only this newly discovered phenomenon would happen at County, State, and National levels?
