Fire damages local residence

Firefighters battle the blaze at a three-unit apartment in East 4th South Street on Thursday.
A fire caused extensive damage to a local residence Thursday afternoon that displaced a family that had escaped from a previous structural fire last October.
According to assistant fire chief Bud Corbus, the fire at 290 East 4th South St. began on or below the front porch around 1:20 p.m. with the flames engulfing the front of the apartment by the time firefighters arrived.
