Boys soccer team's season ends
The Mountain Home Tigers boys soccer team bounced back from their District III 4A Tournament loss to Middleton with a win over Kuna, but lost in the consolation semi-finals to Caldwell to see their season end.
Mountain Home 4, Kuna 0
Mountain Home scored two goals in each half on their way to a 4-0 District III 4A elimination game win over Kuna last Monday at Eastside Park in Mountain Home.
Juan Torres scored goals in each half. Victory Sanchez and Parker Ford also scored goals. Logan Curran and Alejandro Galan had assists. Jorge Salinas had 12 saves on goal in the shutout win.
"We played very well, especially with one half of our defense out with minor injuries," said Tiger boys soccer coach Mike Torres. "They deserved this, since they had a hard loss on Saturday."
Caldwell 3, Mountain Home 1
The Caldwell Cougars ended Mountain Home's hopes for a state tournament berth during a 3-1 win in the consolation semi-finals last Tuesday.
Juan Torres scored Mountain Home's lone goal. Jorge Salinas had eight saves on goal.
"We played well," said Coach Torres. "We never gave up."
Despite their dismal 4-14-1 overall record, Coach Torres thought his Tigers gave their all each game.
"Like I told them after the game, no matter the score, they always played hard till the end of each game. They were a great bunch of soccer players and young men."
The Tigers lose nine seniors to graduation, but Coach Torres is optimistic about the future of Tiger soccer.
"We have nine returning varsity players, and with two JV players we brought up for district," the coach said. "We feel that we will have another solid group of boys, so our future looks bright and we're excited for what is in store for us."
