Lady Tigers pick up initial win during Jerome shutout
The Mountain Home Lady Tigers picked up their first win of the early soccer season with a win over Jerome, then dropped close games to Columbia and Twin Falls.
Mountain Home 11, Jerome 0
Mountain Home defeated Jerome with an 11-0 victory last week.
"It was a good feeling to walk away with that kind of win," said Mountain Home girls soccer coach Kent Ogaard. "The girls played better than they did before. I'm not sure that Jerome was up to our level, and I hate to say that -- it's not condescending at all -- but we definitely have more skill on that side of the ball.
"The girls stayed in it and they practiced on some of the things that they need to refine for today, and we had a lot of scorers," the coach added. "It was an enjoyable game to watch."
Violet Martinez and Madison Roache each scored three goals. Jaycey Carr, Bianca Ridley, Anna Urquidi, Jordan Paige and Nicki Milford each scored one goal.
Missy Jessup had one save on goal as goalkeeper.
Columbia 1, Mountain Home 0
The Lady Tigers could have used a couple of those goals that were so plentiful at Jerome the day before, as they lost a tough, defensive battle at Columbia, 1-0, Wednesday.
"We played an incredible game," said Coach Ogaard. "We had quite a few shots on goal, we just couldn't find the back of the net. I would say we probably had as many shots on goal as they did. They just snuck one in on us."
Twin Falls 2, Mountain Home 0
Mountain Home hosted Twin Falls in its home opener Friday and came up short, 2-0, in a tough defensive battle.
After a scoreless first half, the Lady Bruins managed to score two goals in the second half for the win.
"As much as we tried, we just couldn't find the back of the net," said Coach Ogaard. "It was a good game to look at some things that we've got to work on. I think, overall, the girls played with good communication and played upbeat and a hard game. It just didn't finish like we wanted it to. We'll take a look at film and see where we need to adjust and get ready for our conference play."
The Lady Tigers took a 1-3 record into Tuesday's home game against Jerome. They travel to Twin Falls on Saturday for an 11 a.m. contest with the Lady Bruins. Mountain Home opens its conference schedule Sept. 8 at home against Skyview. That game is set for a 6 p.m. start.
