Betty Gilbert

Betty Jean Gilbert, 80, of Mountain Home, passed away at home on April 21, 2014.

Per her request, no services will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home.

Betty was born Aug.25, 1933, in Yankton, S.D., the daughter of Albert and Zelpha Smith. Betty moved to California with her family -- mom, dad and sister Shirley -- in 1941, where they all stayed for many years. She graduated in 1951 from Richmond High School.

She met and married Harry Gilbert, the love of her life, and they were married 65 years. They have three children, Gary, who resides in Mountain Home, Trina, who lives in Moore, Okla., and Ricky, who lives in Post Falls.

Betty worked at various jobs but was the happiest when she was surrounded by children so she finally got her passion, a day care in her home. She operated it for many years until her health kept her from it.

Betty is survived by her children, Gary Gilbert, Ricky Gilbert and Trina Perez-Guerra, her sister, Shirley Peterson, of Mountain Home, 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Gilbert (April 23, 2013), granddaughter Kayla Mills, great-grandson Alexander Olson and both her parents.
