Helen Strickland
Helen Junice Strickland, 89, of Mountain Home, passed away on Monday, June 3, 2013, at a Mountain Home hospital.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., on Friday, June 7, at Mountain View Cemetery. Rev George Slaughter from Boise will be officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home.
Junice was born May 3, 1924, in Olney, Texas, the daughter of Admiral Dewey and Rosa Reed.
After graduation from high school, Junice completed undergraduate school at Hardin Simmons University in Texas and married Clovis Jackson Strickland on Oct. 11, 1952. Over the next 52 years, they served as pastor and missionaries for the Southern Baptist Convention at various locations in California, New Mexico, and Colorado. During that time, Junice also taught high school English and Spanish and completed her Master's Degree in English at Western New Mexico University.
After retirement from teaching and from ministry, they moved to Mountain Home in 1995. She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church.
Junice is survived by her son, Randy, and his wife, Louanne Strickland, of Crestline, Calif., son Gary and his wife, Cindy Strickland, of Mountain Home, four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one brother and one sister.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clovis Strickland, one brother, one sister and a grandson.
