Chitwoods celebrate 64th

Howard and Dolores Chitwood as they appear today...

Howard and Dolores Chitwood of Mountain Home celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary during an observance April 9.

They met while Howard was stationed at Lake Worth Inlet Station, a U.S. Coast Guard lifeboat installation in Florida. He admits that they were destined to meet that day.

The couple married April 9, 1949, at the White Temple Christian Church in West Palm Beach, Fla.

...and as they appeared 64 years ago.

A veteran of World War II with service in the Pacific, Howard left the Coast Guard only to return to service a few years later. Together, the couple would travel from base to base over the next 20 years before he retired as a warrant officer.

The Chitwoods have three children: David, Jo Anne and Jennifer. They also have six grandchildren as well as six great grandchildren.
