High school track & field squad preps for pair of meets
The Mountain Home Tiger track and field team has two meets this week, hosting Columbia and Caldwell in a meet at Tiger Field today, April 17, before traveling to Middleton on Thursday for the Middleton Invitational.
Mountain Home competed at the Boise Relays last Friday at Donna Larson Park in Boise. The meet was a non-scored event, and featured mainly 5A teams, with Mountain Home and Bishop Kelly the only two 4A schools competing.
Michael Daniels finished fourth in the triple jump, Mountain Home's highest placer. Selena Foster placed fifth in the triple jump and sixth in the high jump and pole vault. Kristen Kreutzer placed fifth in the discus. Jhorie Kelly also placed sixth in the high jump.
Ashley Harmon made the finals in the 100-meter dash, where she placed sixth. Mountain Home's girls 4x100-meter relay team of Whitney Sandberg, Ashley Harmon, McKenzie Sandberg and Jhorie Kelly placed sixth with a season best time of 52.22 seconds.
Tiger head track coach Rich Urquidi was pleased with the efforts at the Boise Relays.
"The coaches felt our athletes stepped up to the task. We had a few standout athletes at the meet.
"In the boys meet, Michael Daniels was our only placer, with a fourth-place finish in the triple jump. Chris Smith increased his height in the high jump to five feet, eight inches. Both Ryan Eckstrom (17.92) and Devin Wright (17.75) bettered their times in the 110-meter high hurdles.
"In the girls, Ashley Harmon made the finals in the girls 100 meters, placing sixth with a time of 13.26 seconds," Coach Urquidi said after the meet. "Selena Foster had a great night, placing fifth in the triple jump and sixth in the high jump and pole vault."
Jhorie Kelly also placed sixth in the high jump. Meanwhile, Kristen Kreutzer had a personal best throw of 104 feet, eight inches in the discus for a fifth-place finish. The 4x100 meter relay team placed sixth with their best time of the season.
The Tigers track and field team will host Caldwell and Columbia today at Tiger Field, with field events scheduled to start at 4 p.m. Mountain Home will also compete at the Middleton Invitational on Thursday, April 18.
