Terry Gibson
Terry Donovan Gibson, 52, of Owyhee, Nev., passed away on April 4, 2013, at the hospital in Owyhee, Nev.
Terry Donovan Gibson was born March 9, 1961 in Owyhee, Nev., to the late Benson Gibson and Antoinette Gibson. Terry attended school in Owyhee, graduating from Owyhee High School. During his high school years he was involved in Future Farmers of America, football, boxing and rodeos, riding saddle bronc and winning many awards and buckles. Terry was also involved in cattle ranching throughout his life.
After high school Terry attended Wyoming Tech College and College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls, where he continued his saddle bronc riding, which was one of the many passions he loved so much, under the leadership of Shawn Davis, PRCA president of the rodeo association.
During Terry's earlier years, he traveled to many rodeos throughout the state, riding saddle bronc, stating "Just spur the crap out of 'em!" It was at the Little Britches Rodeo where he met the love of his life, Debbie. They later had four children.
Terry retired from saddle bronc riding and began working with the Shoshone-Paiute Tribes in various jobs as TERO director, natural resources director, coordinated the youth gatherings, chairman of the housing board and was involved in many traditional ceremonies for the community.
He later went on to run for Tribal Council and became Chairman of the Tribes.
He was very involved in tribal politics for 20-plus years, accomplishing many good things.
Sunrise services will be held at Terry's residence at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, April 9, and funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. at the Human Development Center in Owyhee, Nev. Burial will be held at Miller Creek Cemetery in Owyhee.
