Ervin Gifford
Ervin W. Gifford, 84, of Homedale, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at home, with his family at his side.
Ervin was born on Jan. 24, 1929, in Indian Cove, Idaho, to George and Alice Gifford. He was raised and educated in Bruneau.
At the age of 17, he joined the United States Army on Dec. 5, 1948. During his time in the service the United States Air Force was formed. Ervin was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force in 1951.
After being discharged, he married Vera Holdren on Feb. 24, 1957, in West Virginia.
The two moved to Idaho where Ervin proudly served the people of Boise, Idaho, as a dedicated and respected police officer. Ervin joined the Boise Police Department in 1962 and retired in 1989.
After retirement he became a deputy marshall at the U.S. federal building for the next ten years.
He then became an instructor to the Idaho Chapter of the AARP. He was also the Regional coordinator and then state coordinator of the AARP.
Ervin spent his free time gardening and loved to spend time with his loving family.
He is survived by his wife, Vera Gifford, daughter Kay L. (Slate) May, granddaughter Amanda (Brian) Hawkes, great-grandchildren Alexus and Christian Hawkes, and sisters Evelyn Wilson, Ruth Powell and Margeret Bryson.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Homedale.
