Mary Stone

Mary Alice Stone, 87, of Mountain Home, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2013, at a local hospital.

Services will be held on Monday, March 25, with a viewing from 10-10:45 a.m. and funeral services at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 790 S. Haskett, in Mountain Home. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.

Mary Alice was born at home in Thomas, Idaho, in 1925. She was the seventh of eight living children. She grew up on the farm milking cows, hoeing beets and driving hay wagons. She remembered when they first got electricity and indoor plumbing in their home.

She married Earle R. Stone in the LDS temple in Salt Lake City in 1942 when she was seventeen and Earle was eighteen. They were married for 64 years until his death in 2006. She had three children who were the light of her life.

She was always a hard worker and worked in various restaurants in Idaho and Reno, Nev. In Riverside, Calif., she helped open Danny's Donuts restaurants, which later became Denny's. She worked and was a partner in the Oxbow restaurant in Bliss, Idaho.

Mary and Earle purchased the Desert Inn in Mountain Home in 1961, which she managed for 46 years until she closed in 2007 to retire at age 81.

There are many fond memories of her Desert Inn extended family. The fulfilling part for her was helping to foster a sense of community for Mountain Home.

Family gatherings with her children and grandchildren were important to her and she hosted and cooked for them often.

We love her greatly and miss her.

Mary is survived by her son, Ronnie, and his wife, Sandy Stone, of Eagle, daughter Bonnie Lee and husband Mike Rice of Meridian, daughter Tracey and husband Brett Yagues of Mountain Home, 12 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Earle, grandson, Scotty, three brothers, four sisters and a daughter-in-law, Linda Stone.
