Paul Anderson
Paul I. Anderson, 96, of Glenns Ferry, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012, at a Glenns Ferry care center, with family by his side.
Services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 25, at the Glenns Ferry VFW Hall with a viewing from 10-10:45 a.m. and services beginning at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow at Glenn Rest Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home.
Paul was born May 27, 1916, to Clarence and Lula Anderson in De Moines, Iowa.
He graduated from North High School and was employed by Coca Cola Bottling and the Rock Island Railroad prior to being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1941. Separated from the service, he hired out to the Union Pacific Railroad as a brakeman in 1945.
Paul settled in Glenns Ferry and was promoted to conductor in 1953.
He married Phyllis Lenninger in July of 1966. They moved to Nampa in 1973 after the terminal in Glenns Ferry was abolished. He retired from the UPRR in May of 1977.
Paul went to work at K-Mart as a night man from 1977-1981. He then went to work for ABM where he was placed at the Idaho Press Tribune until he retired.
Paul moved back to Glenns Ferry where he lived at the Wild Nest Apartments for three years. He then moved to Poplar Grove Assisted Living for the remaining two years of his life.
Paul loved playing Keno in Jackpot where he made many friends. He also loved traveling to many Bombardier Reunions and sharing his stories of the railroad and Air Force at the Glenns Ferry Museum.
Paul also loved his family and was a kind and gentle man.
Survivors include six step-daughters: Patti (Buddy) Allen of King Hill, Suann (Rex) McDonald of Star, Donna (Bill) Pharris of Mountain Home, Bonnie (Tim) Jackson of Mountain Home, Janice Huebert of Bullhead City, Ariz., Betty Ward of Coalgate, Okla., 24 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and his nephew, Paul Bergstrom, of Culver City, Okla. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Phyllis, stepsons Jeffrey Lenninger and Ronald Heffner, a brother and two sisters.
