Firms mull locating meat packing plant here

With two companies considering partnering for a 300-job business just outside of Mountain Home, the Elmore County Planning and Zoning Commission began a process last week to clean up and clarify the appropriate zoning ordinances for the business.
Mountain Home is one of two sites in Idaho under consideration for a major meat packing plant/slaughterhouse/rendering plant. Currently, Idaho does not have a slaughterhouse for cattle. Ranchers must truck their animals to either eastern Washington or northern Utah, which adds roughly $50 a head in costs to a rancher.
