Dennis K. Hennigar,
Dennis K. Hennigar, 65, of Bruneau, passed away at his home on Sunday, June 17, 2012, after a long battle with cancer.
Dennis was born October 21, 1946, to Donald and Donna (DuFour) Hennigar in Minneapolis, Minn. He graduated from high school in Adams, Minn., in 1965. He enlisted in the Army after graduation and served in Vietnam as a tank mechanic. He was awarded a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts.
On August 6, 1966, he married Sandra Shaw at Adams, Minn. They moved to Renton, Wash., in 1968 and later relocated Elma, Wash., where they built a home and raised two children.
Dennis owned and operated South Bank Diesel Service at Elma from 1977 until his retirement in 2002. He loved his work and getting to know his many customers. He also enjoyed sharing his knowledge and skills with his son, Chris. Dennis was a member of the Eagles and the VFW.
He loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed fishing, gold prospecting and especially working on his MCI bus conversion. He and Sandra lived fulltime in their bus conversion for several years traveling and spending winters in Arizona. Later, they built a home in Bruneau, where they resided at the time of his death.
Dennis is survived by his wife Sandra; son Chris Hennigar of Elma, Wash.; daughter Melissa (Paul) Fritts of Aberdeen, Wash.; five grandchildren: Kaylene, Katherine and Kristen Hennigar , and Jake and Josh Fritts; one sister and five half-sisters; six half-brothers; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dennis was preceded in death by his mother, one sister and one brother.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date in Elma, Wash.
Cremation was under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.
