Myrtle Lombard
Myrtle Lombard, 84, of Mountain Home passed away on Monday, April 23, 2012, at a Mountain Home care center. There will be no services per her request. Arrangements are under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.
Myrtle was born on Aug. 12, 1927, to Amanuel F. and Annie C. Andersen (Larsen) in Blackfoot where she grew up and came of age during the Great Depression. She was the ninth child of 10 children.
During her early years, you would have caught her swimming, roller skating or catching the freight train to Pocatello. She thought nothing of hitchhiking to Yellowstone Park with her girlfriends.
After teaching her boyfriend to skate, she decided to marry him. On June 8, 1946, Myrtle married Francis E. Lombard. They were married for 65 years. During this union, one son, Francis E. Lombard Jr. was born.
Early years were tough on the family. Little money, a new baby and her husband in college, Myrtle helped supplement the income by babysitting. The family lived in Pocatello until 1959 when her husband transferred to Mountain Home Air Force Base. He retired in 1985, and they remained in Mountain Home.
Myrtle was a member of the Eureka Rock Club for 42 years. She was also a member of the Senior Citizen and Historical Society and enjoyed field trips with her husband and good friend, Belle Wise.
Myrtle is survived by her husband, Francis; her son, Francis Jr.; three grandkids, Alicia Swanson, Susanne Sherman and Aaron Lombard; and two great-grandkids, Will and Lila Sherman. She is preceded in death by both her parents and all nine of her sisters and brothers.
Memorial contributions can be made in Myrtle's name to a hospice center of your choice.
