Tennis teams play tough but lose match to Skyview
The Mountain Home Tigers girls and boys tennis teams both lost to Skyview by 0-7 scores in Mountain Home's opening match of the season at Richard Aguirre Park in Mountain Home last Monday.
In girls singles, Stephanie Farnsworth lost the #1 match, 1-6, 3-6.
Kali Ireland lost the #2 match, 2-6, 1-6, and Brytany Minder lost the #3 match, 3-6, 2-6.
"This year, our girls' singles players actually played doubles last year. And as juniors, they have grabbed the single spots and are running with them," said Mountain Home Tiger tennis coach Tamzy House. "Although they lost their matches, I was very pleased with their competitiveness."
In girls doubles, Anna Martin and Leah Riley lost the #1 match, 1-6, 2-6, and Tessa Pachner and Emma Wenger lost the #2 match, 3-6, 2-6.
In boys singles, Daniel Courtright battled his opponent to deuce numerous times, but lost the #1 singles match, 1-6, 0-6. Brad Foreman lost the #2 match 5-7, 1-6, and Haydon Draper lost the #3 match, 3-6, 1-6.
"Brad and Haydon are our two new freshmen varsity players," said Coach House. "They both played very well for their first time out. It will be exciting to watch them as they continue to compete over the next four years."
In mixed doubles, the #1 team of Drew Borgholthaus and Allie Draper lost, 3-6, 2-6.
"Drew and Allie played mixed doubles as sophomores and almost made it to state," said Coach House. "Their goal is to make it this year."
Joshua Saporta and Kaitlyn Stevens lost the #2 mixed doubles match, 2-6, 1-6.
"Although both the girls and boys teams lost their matches, it was a very competitive match with a lot of good tennis," said Coach House. "The keys was consistency back and forth across the net, and that is where Skyview had the advantage."
"As was the case last year, the Mountain Home Tiger tennis team saw a large turnout of players," said Coach House. "Tiger tennis is a 'no-cut' sport, designed to teach and promote the game of tennis so it can be a lifetime sport for the kids. This year, Tiger tennis hit the courts with 24 varsity players, including 14 returning letter winners. The JV has 19 players with nine brand new to the game of tennis."
Last Thursday's tennis match at Bishop Kelly was postponed due to bad weather. It will tentatively be rescheduled for the first week in April.
The Tigers have a busy week of tennis this week, weather permitting.
The Tigers were scheduled to be at Emmett on Tuesday. Today, March 21, they host Caldwell at the Richard Aguirre Park courts at 2 p.m. On Friday, the Tigers will host Jerome at Richard Aguirre Park starting at 12:30 p.m.
