One in custody following high-speed chase
A Meridian woman remains in custody following a high-speed chase on the interstate that ended north of Glenns Ferry on Nov. 15.
According to a report from the Elmore County Sheriffs Department, the pursuit started around 2:45 p.m. after Noelle M. Allen was reported traveling east in the westbound lane near milepost 74.
The four-lane interstate was down to just two lanes in that area due to road construction.
Sgt. Rudy Foote, one of the deputies responding to the incident, saw the 33-year-old woman driving in excess of 91 miles per hour as she left the construction zone. As the deputy tried to get her to stop, she failed to yield.
At one point during the pursuit, she accelerated to speeds exceeding 125 miles per hour. During a conversation with dispatchers, one deputy reported that Allen didn't seem to care whether she hit anyone as she raced down the highway.
"I don't know if this (person) is trying to cause a collision. (She's) swerving toward vehicles and backing off," one deputy told dispatchers. Around milepost 100, Allen "divided two cars down the median."
As the pursuit continued, she reportedly threw a small packet out the window. It's not known if the package was recovered or what it contained.
At one point, sheriff's deputies laid out spike strips on the interstate at milepost 94 in an attempt to stop the car. However, Allen managed to elude the strips and continued toward Glenns Ferry. At that point, state troopers and Gooding County deputies were preparing to set up additional spike strips east of Glenns Ferry.
Meanwhile, Elmore County deputies were planning on blocking all off ramps in an attempt to keep her on the highway. At that very moment, however, she managed to leave the interstate at Exit 120, which leads into Glenns Ferry.
She then headed north on Morrow Reservoir Road at speeds exceeding 70 miles per hour at one point. Allen stayed on the dead end road for about two miles before she stopped on the gravel roadway near a residence.
Deputies arrested her without incident just after 3 p.m. and took her to the Elmore County Jail.
During her initial arraignment last Wednesday, she faced an initial felony count of eluding and evading a law enforcement officer and could face additional charges.
