Ralph Uhl
Ralph D. Uhl, 88, of Glenns Ferry, passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at a Boise hospital.
A memorial service was held Monday, June 27, at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home. Inurnment followed at Glenn Rest Cemetery in Glenns Ferry.
Ralph was born on Sept. 26, 1922, in Silver Lake, Kan., the son of Archie and Maud Uhl. He attended school in Berryton, Kan., growing up on a farm during the Depression.
He moved to Topeka, Kan., after graduating from high school and worked at Kansas Power and Light, where he met Evelyn Unruh. They were married on Sept. 23, 1950. Together, they moved to Hutchinson, Kan., where Ralph worked for Carey Salt Company and their son, Denis ,was born.
In 1955, the family moved to Denver, Colo., and they lived there for 23 years. During that time Ralph worked at Rocky Mountain Osteopathic Hospital as the building and grounds supervisor.
After retiring, Ralph and Evelyn returned to Berryton to operate the family farm.
In 1988, they moved to Hammett to be close to their son and his family. While living in Hammett, Ralph also operated a saw sharpening business.
Ralph was an avid sports fan and always attended his grandsons' games.
In 2008, Ralph and Evelyn enjoyed their last years as residents at Poplar Grove Assisted Living in Glenns Ferry.
Ralph is survived by his son, Denis ,and his wife, Deb Uhl, of Hammett, his grandsons, Chris and his wife, Carolyn Uhl, of Kuna, and Scot Uhl of Boise.
He was preceded in death by his parents, all his siblings and his wife, Evelyn, in 2010.
