Standoff leads to arrest for battery
Police arrested a Mountain Home man without incident Sunday following a three-hour standoff prompted by a domestic violence call.
At about 9:25 a.m., officers with the Mountain Home Police Department responded to a residence located in the 1600 block of Bedrock Street in reference to a possible domestic violence call. Officers had been advised that the victims boyfriend, Kristian Buchanan, 39, was beating her up.
Once police arrived, they made contact with the female victim who said that she and Buchanan had been in an argument and that Buchanan had chased her out of the house.
Officers attempted to make contact with Buchanan, but to no avail. The female victim said that there were firearms in the residence.
Additional officers with the Elmore County Sheriffs Office and the Idaho State Police responded to the area to assist in the standoff and approximately five nearby homes were evacuated temporarily.
Officers continued to attempt contact with Buchanan and at approximately 12:15 p.m. he surrendered peacable and was taken into custody without incident.
Buchanan was charged intitially with domestic battery, aggravated assault and intentional destruction of a telephone.
No injuries were reported in the standoff. The incident is still under investigation at this time.
