District cuts teachers, programs
Wednesday, May 25, 2011
Faced with making a million dollars worth of cuts in its budget due to declining enrollment and reductions in state funding, the Mountain Home School district is cutting at least 14 teaching positions this year, 17 support staff and one administrator.
Four additional teaching positions are on hold until fall when the district finds out what its enrollment will be.
Roughly half of the teaching position cuts are due to declining enrollment. The district has been on a downward trend in enrollment for most of the last decade, largely due to a reduction in students that followed personnel drawdowns at the airbase.
