Track team nets two district champs at Bishop Kelly meet
Mountain Home had two district champions at the District II 4A Track and Field meet at Bishop Kelly last week, and 13 Tiger athletes qualified for state in 16 events.
Dakota Barrie won the 100-meter high hurdles. She also qualified for state in the 300-meter hurdles, where she finished second, and the high jump, where she finished third. She was also a member of the 4x100-meter relay team (along with Heather Williams, Marissa Streeter and Jessica Tindall) that finished second.
Tracey Gordon finished second in the long jump, was a member (along with Heather Williams, Jessica Tindall and Shelby Henrick) of the 4x200-meter relay that finished second, and qualified for state with her fifth-place finish in the 200 meters. She also was a member of the medley relay team (with Heather Williams, Jessica Tindall and Shelby Henrick) that finished third.
Marissa Streeter qualified for state with her third-place effort in the long jump, had a sixth-place effort in the triple jump and was part of the 4x400-meter relay team (along with Kacee Cameron, McKenzie Sandberg and Shelby Henrick) that finished third.
Jessica Tindall also qualified for state with her fourth-place finish in the 100 meters.
Jordan Vivier qualified for state in the 1600 meters with her fourth-place effort.
Kacee Cameron finished fourth in both the long jump and triple jump, which qualified her for state in both events. She also had an eighth-place finish in the 400 meters.
Kristen Kreutzer's fourth-place effort in the shot put qualified her for state.
Shelby Henrick (400 meters), Haley Schaefer (800 meters) and Keesha Janis-Gibson (discus) also qualified for state with their fifth-place efforts.
Janis-Gibson had a seventh-place effort in the shot put.
Other placers that did not qualify for state were Jhorie Kelly, sixth in the high jump, Christina Segovia, sixth in the pole vault, and Heather Williams, seventh in the 200 meters.
The Lady Tigers finished second to Bishop Kelly at District. Bishop Kelly had 154.2 points and Mountain Home had 122.2 points.
The Tiger boys finished eighth in the team standings, with 41.5 points. Bishop Kelly was first with 130.5 points.
Alexander Ling was Mountain Home's other district champion, winning the 110-meter high hurdles to qualify for state. He finished in an eighth-place tie in the high jump.
J.T. Cristobal qualified for state in the 100 meters and 200 meters, finished second in the 100 and fifth in the 200.
Ling and Cristobal were the only Tiger boys to qualify for state.
Other placers included the 4x200-meter relay (J.T. Cristobal, Colby Hall, Tyler Knauth and Ricky Castillo), which finished third, Tyler Knauth, who was sixth in the 800 meters, Chaise Hopkins who placed sixth in the long jump, Michael Daniels was sixth in the triple jump, the 1600-meter spring medley relay (J.T. Cristobal, Colby Hall, Ricky Castillo and Tyler Knauth) finished sixth, the 4x100-meter relay (John Payton, David Katsules, Chaise Hopkins and Juan Silva) finished seventh, and Ricky Castillo was eighth in the 400 meters.
"Congratulations to our district champions, Dakota Barrie in the 100-meter high hurdles and Alex Ling in the 110-meter high hurdles," said Tiger head track coach Rich Urquidi. "The girls as a team really stepped up on day two and moved from fourth to second place. This is the second year in a row the girls have ended up as runners-up. We're looking forward to state."
The State 4A Track and Field Championships run from Thursday to Friday at Boise State University.
