Bobbie "Bob" Works
Bobbie "Bob" Works, 74, of Glenns Ferry, passed away early Saturday, April 16, 2011. A viewing was held Thursday, April 21, 2011 at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel. Burial to be held at the New Auburn Cemetery, Auburn, California on Tuesday, May 3, 2011.
Bob was born in Dierks, Arkansas to Bobbie L. and Hazel P. Works. At an early age the family moved to Auburn, California, where he lived most of his life. On February 27, 1954, he married Retha A. Mallory of Auburn. They had three children, Robert, Larry and Candy, who are all now residing in Glenns Ferry.
Bob was a man of many talents. Early on he raced stock cars at what is now known as Sacramento Speedway. While in Auburn, he owned and operated Bob's Floor Coverings for many years. He became a general contractor operating B&W Construction, at which he was extremely successful.
He was a hard working man who supported his family comfortably. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing and gold prospecting. In 2003, Bob and Retha moved to Glenns Ferry, joining their son Larry and his wife Sue. Candy and her son John also moved to Glenns Ferry about the same time. Son Robert arrived in 2009.
Being an Auburnite most of his life, it was Bob's wish to be buried in California, close to his parents and two younger brothers who preceded him in death.
Bob is survived by his wife Retha, their three children, eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Bob is also survived by his cousin Donald McMurrian of Nampa, and his Aunt Anna Mae Tipton of Auburn, CA, who has outlived them all. Bless her.
Arrangements are under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel in Mtn Home, ID and Chapel of the Hills in Auburn, CA.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Elmore Medical Long Term Care Unit, 895 No. 6th East, Mtn Home, ID 83647, in hopes of receiving more equipment to aid in the excellent care that they provide for their patients.
