Fred Smith
Fred G. Smith, 77, of Mountain Home, passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2011, at a Boise hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 22, at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.
Fred was born on Oct. 13, 1933, in LaCrosse, Wis., the son of Fred and Nellie Smith.
He joined the U.S.Army in September of 1952, during the Korean War.
Fred married Elizabeth "Betty" Harden, on Sept. 9, 1967, in New Sharon, Iowa. Together, they had a daughter, Sandy.
Fred attended the University of Puget Sound, receiving a Bachelors of Arts on Dec. 17, 1976.
Fred worked for Trans World Airlines (TWA) at both JFK and Seattle, retiring after many years of service. He was the manager of SATO Travel at McChord Air Force Base from 1967-1979, worked with Customer Service at TWA from 1979-1985, the manager of SATO Travel at Mountain Home Air Force Base and Gowen Field from 1985 to 1996 and at Walmart from 2000 until his death.
Fred's enjoyed doing genealogy. He was an instructor for Arthur Murray's School of Dance, a member of the American Legion in LaCrosse, Wis., a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge in Enumclaw, Wash., was involved in Mountain Home's Air Force Appreciation Day, the Chamber of Commerce and the
Military Affairs Committee.
Fred is survived by his wife, Betty, his daughter, Sandy, and her husband, David Fields, of Plainfield, Ind., his brothers, Rod and his wife, Kay Smith, of Hastings, Minn., Doug and his wife, Rhonda Smith, of LaCrosse, Wis., his sister, Anita, and her husband, Ken Blake, of LaCrosse, Wis., and his two granddaughters, Kylie and Delaney Fields.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Debbie Smith, and his sister, Betty Schwanbeck.
