Tigers close out season with win
The Mountain Home Tigers closed out their regular season wrestling schedule with a 54-29 conference dual win at Emmett last Thursday.
The Tigers picked up five wins by pins. They included Aeriel Groene in the 112 pound weight class, Devonte McClain at 125, Tyler Rios at 135, Austin Clark at 145 and Sergio Guadarrama at 171 pounds.
Winning by forfeits for Mountain Home were Jaime Ibarra at 103 pounds, Austin Lucas at 119, Jon Ryan at 189 and Ty McRae at 285.
Justin Johnson lost by a technical decision (18-2) at 152 pounds.
Losing by pins were Levi Abrahamson at 130, Ryan Goldsby at 140 and Jeff Checketts at 215.
The Tigers also forfeited at 160 pounds.
Tiger wrestling coach Lynn Knudson was pleased with their efforts at Emmett.
"We took some forfeits, but the kids that wrestled, wrestled well," the coach said. "There was a lot of improvement through that match on how we're wrestling and hopefully we can bring that on into the district tournament."
The District III 4A wrestling tournament is Feb. 17-18 at Kuna.
The Tigers have eight wrestlers seeded in the top six. Seeded second are Sergio Guadarrama at 171 pounds and Ty McRae at 285. Devonte McClain is seeded third at 125 pounds. Ryan Goldsby is seeded fourth at 145 pounds.
Seeded fifth include Tyler Rios at 135 pounds, Austin Clark at 152, and Jon Ryan at 215. Jeff Checketts is seeded sixth at 215 pounds.
