Flood cleanup planned
Two weeks after flood waters battered a Glenns Ferry neighborhood, local volunteers plan to clean up the remaining debris Saturday morning.
Organizers hope to remove the tree limbs, weeds and other flood remnants left behind along the creek banks and around the affected homes.
Flooding associated with weekend rain showers caused the Little Canyon Creek in Glenns Ferry to breach its banks, flooding properties on both sides of the creek in the north and south sides of town. Rising water prompted the evacuation of four homes the morning of Jan. 17.
Volunteers in Mountain Home will meet at 8:30 a.m. that day at Kenda Schroeder's home at 300 South 10th East Street and convoy together. Others can meet up with the group in Glenns Ferry.
The cleanup starts near the underpass where Frontage Road and North Elmore Avenue cross. To get there, people should take the interstate to Exit 120 and turn righ onto Bannock Road. From there, turn left onto Moore Avenue across from the high school. Drivers should turn right onto North Elmore Avenue using the copper roof of Sammy and Monte White's house as a reference point. Volunteers will gather at the near a set of modular homes across from a pasture.
In addition to bringing work gloves, Schroeder urges people to wear boots and warm clothing they won't mind getting dirty. She also put out a call for volunteers to bring along shovels, pitch forks, wheel barrows and pickup trucks to help speed up the clean up effort.
