Calvin Ireland, Sr.
Calvin Roy Ireland, Sr., 90, of Mountain Home, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, at a Boise hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 28, at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
Roy was born to Peter Roy and Mary (Marker) Ireland, on June 17, 1920, in Emmett, Idaho. Roy was raised and spent his entire life in Elmore County.
He married Marian G. Fellows on Jan. 5, 1944. They raised hay and grain on the Prairie and lived there until 1967, when the extended family purchased the Orville Colthorp Ranch, north of Mountain Home, and Roy, Marian and children moved to Mountain Home. Having been a "dry land farmer," Roy was overjoyed to be able to water the crops.
Roy loved tractors and spent many years buying them, for a total of 15 at one time. He was always looking for one no other close neighbor had. He did much custom work over his lifetime to justify the cost of his equipment.
He was a self-taught expert on Freeman Balers and Gleaner Combines.
He always had an eye for fine horses and raised Angus cattle throughout his life.
Roy is survived by his son, Calvin Roy Ireland, Jr., and his wife, Joyce "Tiny," his daughters, Patsy M. and her husband, Terry Arrizabalaga, Susan K. and her husband, Danny Winings, all living on the ranch at Mountain Home,
daughter-in-law Mary Gill of Bruneau, brother Elmer W. Ireland and his wife, Barbara, of Prairie, his sister, Doris E. Martin, of Boise, eight grandchildren, Jessie Ireland, Joe Ireland, Jim Ireland, Bill Ireland, Polly
Adamson, Jeff Arrizabalaga, Steve Winings and Andy Winings, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Mary Ireland, his wife, Marian, son David W. Ireland, grandson Scott P. Arrizabalaga and his sister, Wanda Cattron.
