Voters go to polls Tuesday

Wednesday, May 19, 2010

Voters will go to the polls Tuesday, to cast ballots in the state's primary election.

Voters will cast a bllot for either the Republican races or the Democratic races. There are no contested local races on the Democratic ballot, but several for state and federal races. Non-partisan contests appear on both ballots.

The Republican ballot is filled with contested races, both locally and at the state and federal level. The winners in each party will face off against the winners in the other party, and any independent candidates, in the November general election.

A special note on the map printed in the Mountain Home News. Due to a staff error, map appears to show the section of Mountain Home 5 south of the interstate as being part of Mountain Home 3 since it is a lighter color than the rest of Mountain Home 5. If a person is not sure of their appropriate precinct voting location they can go to www.idahovotes.gov and follow the links to find where their polling place is, or call the courthouse at 587-2136.

  • Someone please fill me in....I'm confused or just plain stupid, don't know which yet, but I'm sure someone on here will tell me. Why are we able to request only one ballot (either Republican OR Democratic)??? Am I not free to choose who I believe to be the best candidate, whether they be Republican or Democrat? Is this not my right? Will have to do some research on my rights prior to next Tuesday.

Yep, We are an Open Primary state so most demcrats vote on the republican primary so the more liberal republican wins the nomination, and usually the general election. That is why we have alot of RINOs in Idaho.

  • Conservative...

Just because one is not "conservative" does not mean they are not Republican. Conservative is NOT the definition of Republican beliefs. If you believe that every Republican should have the exact same thoughts and ideals of government as you and every other republican, than you don't have true Republican beliefs.

A "RINO" is merely a republican that doesn't agree with YOU...and who doesn't think one of the most important issues in our state today is making English the state language of Idaho!!! That is a right-wing conservative issue, not a Republican issue. I don't need the government to tell me what language I have to speak. There are way more pressing issues than that absurdity.

    Moving on...

A RINO in my opinion is a republican who does not follow what has been determined as the party line at the beginng of every year. I am not a republican. I am a convervative. I believe in smaller goverment, states rights, and not passing new laws every year.

I also wonder why canidates send the flyers in the mail. I have done my research and know who I am voting for. Their post cards or signs around town are not going to change my opinion.

  • I don't think putting up flyers, or sending out postcards are for the intent of changing one's opinion, but informing those who have not yet decided...

  • What I don't like is the Politicians calling my house and leaving their propaganda on my answering machine.

  • @ bazookaman

What about those signs that are in green or purple? I know Fisher is a republican, he just likes the color green. I don't think it matters what party the county assessor is though...

I agree with you completely on the fact that our country is a republic...

but, not every republican, that doesn't follow the "republican issues" is a "RINO." Politics are just not that cut and dry...the way most (just about ALL, really) legislation is written makes it difficult for a politician to vote "yes" or "no" on every issue. Corder had to vote no on an issue to prevent the government taking away people's rights on another issue...all because of the way that particular legislative piece was written. THAT is where things get sneaky.

I am a republican that believes in less government, but I am a strong advocate for human rights and civil rights. Does that make me a RINO?
