Cops train at school for gunmen scenario

Teachers in the Mountain Home area got their first look at how police officers here would respond to a shooting at local area schools during a training exercise Friday morning.

Nine officers with the city police department ran through the active shooters training course at Mountain Home High School to hone skills needed to protect lives and apprehend armed assailants.

"We need our officers to be trained in these types of procedures," said Officer Melanie Rhodes, who runs the department's training program. In situations dealing with armed gunmen, officers here will be the first ones to respond on scene.
