JV boys rebound to defeat Emmett
The Mountain Home Tiger JV boys basketball team held off the Emmett Huskies for a win Friday night at Emmett. Earlier in the week, the junior varsity squad lost at Jerome.
Jerome 57, Mountain Home 41
Jerome outscored Mountain Home 33-20 in the second half to win 57-41 in JV boys basketball at Jerome last Tuesday night.
Mountain Home battled back from an early deficit to take an 11-10 lead after a quarter. They fell six down in the second but cut it to 24-21 at the half. In the third quarter, Mountain Home was outscored 18-10 to fall behind 42-31 after three. They fell down by 20 midway through the fourth and got no closer at the final buzzer.
James Simon had a season-high 15 points to lead Mountain Home in scoring. Brent Sexauer added eight points, Jacob Perry six, Ricky Castillo five, J.T. Cristobal three and Anthony Barboza and Tyler Casey both had two points.
Mountain Home 46, Emmett 43
A 9-0 run through the third and fourth quarters provided Mountain Home with the cushion they needed to hold off the Emmett JV Friday night at Emmett.
The Tigers fell behind early and trailed 14-6 after a quarter. They went on a 10-0 run to start the second and take the lead 16-14 before falling back behind, 23-18. They battled back to tie the game at 23-23 at halftime.
Mountain Home fell behind 35-30 with 3:09 left in the third quarter, but over the next four-and-a-half minutes went on a 9-0 run, eight of the points coming from Anthony Barboza, including two treys to start the fourth quarter, as the Tigers went up 39-35. Emmett was not able to come closer than two points the rest of the way and the Tigers held on for the win.
Tyler Casey led the Mountain Home scoring with 10 points, Brent Sexauer and Anthony Barboza both added eight points, James Simon netted seven, J.T. Cristobal six, Ricky Castillo five and Jacob Perry had two points to round out the scoring.
