Lady runners qualify for state event
The Mountain Home Tigers were hoping to have both the girls and boys qualify for the state cross country meet when they ran at the district meet last Thursday at Eagle Island State Park. In the end, the girls finished second to qualify for state, but the boys came up a few points short at district and finished fifth overall.
Bishop Kelly won the girls race with 19 points. Mountain Home trailed with 63, far ahead of Skyview and Kuna, which tied for third with 108 points. Emmett was fifth with 143, Columbia had 162, Middleton 168 and Nampa 183.
Jordan Vivier led the Mountain Home girls, finishing fifth in a time of 20:10.13. Sarah Richins ran a new personal best with her 11th-place finish (20:40.52), as did Kacee Cameron (20:44.47) with her 12th-place effort. Haley Schaefer came in 17th (21:11.42), Shelby McHugh was 18th (21:17.17), Ashley Mayberry was 20th, besting her record at (21:37.14), and McKenzie Dorr was 33rd (22:28.82).
Jennica Quintal and Alicia Reynolds both had new personal records running in the JV girls race. Jennica was 10th (24:18.14), Alicia was 15th (25:06.36) and Starley Dodge finished 26th (27:34.64).
Bishop Kelly also won the boys race, scoring 36 points. Kuna was second with 82, Skyview right behind with 90, Middleton was fourth with 106, Mountain Home fifth with 113, followed by Emmett at 152, Columbia with 155 and Nampa with 194.
Although the Tiger boys missed qualifying for state by just seven points, three Tigers qualified individually.
Dylan Johnson, Joe Gutierrez and Jovanne Carrizales all qualified for the state meet. Johnson finished 11th, running a 17:33, Gutierrez was 17th (17:50.26), just ahead of Carrizales, who ran a new personal best (17:51.12).
Taylor Croft bested his best time (18:39.23), finishing 31st, Gavin Cline was 36th (18:52.78), Jon Dodge was 38th (18:57.95) and Ruben Gaytan was 47th (19:34.26).
Aaron Menhart led the Tigers in the boys JV race, finishing 19th (19:56.79), Colby Hall was 30th (20:57.05), Daniel Courtright was 32nd (21:20.62), James McGovern was 39th (21:39.69), Doug Watkins 43rd (21:47.07) and Tim Sieber 61st 23:16.42).
The State 4A cross country race is this Saturday at the Circling Raven Golf Course in Worley.
