JV Tigers' goal-line stand beats Nampa
The Mountain Home Tigers JV football team put on a tough goal-line stand to hold on to beat the Nampa JV 19-12 in conference football at Nampa last Thursday night.
Both teams scored in the first quarter, Mountain Home's score coming on a 1-yard run by Austin Clark.
The Tigers scored twice in the second quarter, the first on a 10-yard pass from Tyler Knauth to Luke Filipovich.
After Nampa ran back the ensuing kickoff 84 yards for a score to tie the game at 12-12, the Tigers battled back, Tyler Knauth running it in from four yards out. Austin Clark booted the point-after try to put the Tigers up 19-1, at halftime.
Neither team scored in the second half. The Mountain Home defense rose to the occasion late in the game to stop the Bulldogs on fourth and goal from the one-yard line.
The Tigers were led by Austin Clark with 140 yards rushing and a touchdown on 17 carries. Enrique Varela had 18 rushes for 79 yards, and Juan Silva rushed 11 times for 67 yards. Tyler Knauth completed five of eight passes for 35 yards and a touchdown for the Tigers. Luke Filipovich had one catch for 10 yards and a touchdown, Juan Silva caught one for 15 yards while Ricky Castillo picked up three catches for 10 yards.
Defensively, Jesse Corbett had nine tackles, a sack and a pass interception, Luke Filipovich had six tackles and Chaise Hopkins had four tackles and a fumble recovery.
The win improved the Tigers to 4-2 on the season and 3-2 in conference play. The Tigers are home Thursday evening at 7 p.m. against the Skyview JV.
