Junior varsity Tigers continue soccer season action
Mountain Home High School's junior varsity soccer squad chalked up a win in recent weeks while knotting the score with other competitors during recent action against teams across the Treasure Valley.
"The boys have played great this season," said team spokesperson Lori McKenzie. "They put their whole heart into it. The games were so good to watch, and the coach really brought out the boys' self esteem. It made Mountain Home proud."
Mountain Home 2, Skyview 1
The JV Tigers dominated the field with 11 shots on goal to slide past Skyview on Sept. 22. Robert Pack put the Tigers on the board with the team's first goal while Fernando Martinez gave the JV squad the go-ahead score. Thomas Guillen led the Tigers' defense with five saves.
Mountain Home 1, Columbia 1
Robert Pack continued to lead the Mountain Home JV players with another goal as the Tigers knotted the score at 1 against visiting Columbia High School on Sept. 24. Thomas Guillen put away two saves at the net while the Tigers made six shots on goal.
Mountain Home 1, Middleton 1
Robert Pack picked up his third goal in recent weeks while the Tigers made seven shots on goal as the JV squad tied against Middleton in a 1-1 contest Sept. 29. Thomas Guillen added seven additional saves for the Tigers.
Nampa 2, Mountain Home 0
Thomas Guillen made 15 saves for the Tigers, but luck favored the visiting Nampa High School JV players as they shut down Mountain Home in a 2-0 victory Oct. 6. The Tigers picked up seven additional shots on goal for the season.
Mountain Home 1, Bishop Kelly 1
Robert Pack put the Tigers up with a goal but Bishop Kelly kept the defense tight as the clock expired with the teams posting a 1-1 score Oct. 7. Thomas Guillen chalked up six saves at the net for Mountain Home while the JV Tigers rallied for seven shots on goal.
Columbia 4, Mountain Home 3
Remaining scoreless in regulation play and two overtime periods, Columbia High School made a crucial fourth penalty kick to inch past Mountain Home, 4-3, during the JV district soccer championship Oct. 9. Mountain Home maintained its defensive strength against Columbia through the opening round of the single-elimination contest, forcing the teams to duke it off during two, five-minute overtime periods before setting the stage for the sudden death penalty kicks. Mountain Home remained flawless in its first three attempts but missed on the fourth and final kick as Columbia put away the game-winning score.
