Idaho gets more than $4M to fight homelessness

BOISE, Idaho (AP) _ The Idaho Housing and Finance Association says the state had nearly 2000 homeless residents at the start of the year, and more than 200 more residents were considered to be precariously housed.
Now the association will distribute more than $4.4 million in federal cash to organizations fighting homelessness in Idaho.
The Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program will help cover short-term rent for at-risk individuals and help homeowners avoid eviction. IHFA President Gerald Hunter says the money will allow the organizations to reach out to more people who need help.
