Gladys Elizabeth Shelly
Gladys Elizabeth Shelly, 89, of Mountain Home, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2009 at a local care center. At her request, no formal services will be held. Cremation was under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.
Gladys was born in Aberdeen, Washington, and at 2 years old moved to and was raised in Alhambra, California. On November 6, 1936, she married Charles W. Shelly, a Navy sailor and family friend. In June of 1939, their first daughter Charoline was born and in February of 1945, their second daughter, Sue Carol was born. As a long-time Navy family they moved often, living in California, Oregon and Washington during Charles' stateside assignments. Gladys and Charles were married 65 years. Gladys was a true Navy wife for their thirty year Navy career and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 26 of Mountain Home.
She raised her younger sister and brother who were in early westerns with many legendary cowboy stars and also the Eastside Kids series.
Gladys is survived by her daughter Sue and her husband Wade Baumgardner of Mountain Home; sister Barbara of Pomona, CA; brother Russell of Gresham, OR; grandsons Richard Ray Vause of Meridian, Christopher Baumgardner of Kennewick, WA; and great-grandkids Jennifer A. Vause, Alex J. and Kyle D. Baumgardner. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles and oldest daughter Charoline.
Gladys was a lovely lady and will be deeply missed by all. Many thanks to the nurses, CNA's and staff of Elmore Medical Center, and the Long Term Care Unit for their wonderful personal care and gentle touch, Gladys loved you all.
