Delbert L. York
Delbert L. York, 72 of Mountain Home, passed away on March 11, 2009 at his home following an illness. Per his request, no services are planned. Cremation under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home.
Our dad, Delbert was born on June 14, 1936, in Mountain Home to Ralph and Lila York. He attended school in Mountain Home and as a young man headed to Nevada where he worked on the Vance Agee Ranch. He came back to Mountain Home and married our mom, his high school sweetheart, Lois Johnson. They made their lifelong home in Mountain Home, where they raised three daughters.
Dad loved to hunt and fish, whether it was up in the mountains or out in the Owyhee desert. With his numerous friends and family members, he enjoyed many trips spent packing into mountain lakes with his horses and mules.
Dad could take an old piece of wood, rusty iron, antler or other object and go to his barn where he spent countless hours making beautiful furniture and many other wonderful things that fill his daughters and grandchildrens homes.
Dad knew no stranger, and over the years, his talent for "striking up a conversation," wherever he was, enabled him to meet many wonderful people.
Dad will be truly missed by his loving wife of 53 years, Lois, brother Dean, sisters Hilma and Marilyn, daughters Vickie and her husband Harv Lyter, Tammie and her husband Don Hedges, Julie and her husband Dave Jennings, grandchildren Felisha Whiteley (Cody Chytka), Alana Dasaro, Heath Hedges (Nicole), Corey Powell (Kristy), great-grandchildren, Cassidy and Kaitlin Whiteley and Hesston Hedges and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his very special granddaughter Jill, parents Ralph and Lila, brother Glen and sister in-law Norma.
