It's time for a new sheriff
Dear editor:
The time is overdue for a change. Elmore County and the city of Mountain Home have had trouble with some of the elected and appointed officials completing their charter of taking care of the public.
Specifically, I'm referring to the chief of police and the sheriff. The mayor replaced the chief of police and now it's time for the voters to replace the sheriff. I have the utmost respect for anyone who can do these jobs, because they're tough. And I suspect both the chief of police and the sheriff, in the beginning, had a passion for doing the right thing.
I have known Greg Berry for almost ten years now and in all that time, I've always known him as a man who, "does the right thing, even when no one's watching."
When I first met Greg, he was a detective captain in the sheriff's department. His passion for this line of work was only matched by his integrity. When I would have the opportunity to talk with co-workers, they all said the same kinds of things about Greg, "He's truly one of those honest and hardworking cops that really cares."
Later, his father asked Greg to leave the sheriff's department and help run the family business. Greg struggled with his decision, because of his dedication to "serving and protecting the people."
But family is a strong bond and something he couldn't ignore. Now that the family business is no longer, Greg wants to serve the public once again; and what better position for him to do the very most for the community, than sheriff.
Greg Berry would make a phenomenal Sheriff for Elmore County. He has all the qualities needed: integrity, dedication, experience in law enforcement, and a passion for protecting and serving the public.
Four years ago, the sheriff said he wanted to win the election one more time, so he could retire. Now it's time for him to do what he said he would do--retire. This is the right thing for him and Elmore County. And there's no better man to replace him than Greg Berry.
