Whitney seems more in touch
Dear editor:
I'll definitely specifically ask at my polling place for the WECRD ballot, which is the only way a voter can get it.
The main reason I'm voting for Leanna Whitney to join the board of the Western Elmore County Recreation District is that she gave me hope that the WECRD can actually benefit the community, when, a couple of months ago I was so angrily set to try to get the thing dismantled.
I like her so very much for reassuring and convincing me, and I agree with her plans as well. Ms. Whitney, during her first six months in office, would make a financial assessment to include a center with and without aquatics of some sort and recreational programs and facilities in the community.
She knows that current ideas were good ten years ago because she was specifically chosen then to head up the Blue Ribbon committee that first proposed the district. And they no longer seem to apply today; she'll help determine current wants and needs of the community.
She sees the need for specific business plans for construction, operation, or maintenance once the final decisions are made. And that unethical levy the current board passed, that flew under the radar -- she's going to help change it back to what the voters first decided upon.
A major reason for my support of Ms. Whitney is her people skills and good attitude. She knows that differing community agencies should work together so as not to duplicate things. She would bring the number of people on the board to five. With her on board, the WECRD will be transparent to the public.
In fact, Ms. Whitney says, "The voters have the best of all possible scenarios -- two people running who love the community and care about what happens here. This isn't about who Mollie is, or who I am. It's about what direction the district will go in the future." I support Ms. Whitney and encourage the community to do so as well.
