Freshmen beat Skyview
The Mountain Home Tigers freshman football team pulled away in the second half to claim a 48-28 win over the Skyview Hawks last Thursday at Skyview.
The Tigers jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead early in the first quarter before an injury caused a loss of focus and Skyview rallied to take a 21-14 lead midway through the second quarter.
A Mountain Home score right before halftime gave the Tigers momentum going into the second half, and they came out strong in the second half to pull away for the 48-28 win.
The Tigers rolled up 298 yards on the ground, led by Juan Garza with 217 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries. Austin Clark had 51 yards and two scores on 14 rushes, JT Cristobal rushed five times for 24 yards, and Jake Hennessey had two carries for six yards. Jake Hennessey threw for 153 yards and three touchdowns. JT Cristobal caught two passes for 93 yards and a score, Austin Clark had two catches for 22 yards, Luke Filipovich caught two passes for 12 yards and two touchdowns, Ricky Castillo caught one for 26 yards and Anthony Lucas had one catch for two yards.
Defensively, Tyler Knaugh picked off a Skyview pass and Austin Seegrist recovered a Skyview fumble.
"We made some some adjustments with our run blocking and picked up our intensity defensively and played better in the second half," said Tiger freshman football coach Richard Suber.
The win improved the Tiger freshmen to 7-1 on the season. That one loss was to Columbia, and they get another crack at them Thursday evening at Columbia in the district championship game.
