Ralph Young, Sr.
Ralph Russell Young, Sr., 70, of Mountain Home, died Saturday, June 28, 2008, at a local hospital.
A viewing will be held from 4-6 p.m. today, Wednesday, July 2, at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 3, at 1 p.m. at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Post No. 26 honor guard.
Ralph was born on July 15, 1937, the son of George and Dorothy Young. He was raised and schooled in Potts-town, Penn.
He joined the US Air Force when he was 17 and served for 20 years. He fought in the Korean War and the Vietnam War. When he was 37 years old he retired from the US Air Force in Mountain Home, which he loved.
He worked many jobs, including 15 years at Carr's Home Lumber, where he retired again and then went to work part-time for the US Forest Service.
"He wasn't happy unless he was working, meeting people and making friends," his family said. "He will be missed not only by his family, but also by many, many friends.
"Ralph loved going to the mountains cutting firewood for the winter, with his friends and family, or going camping and hunting. He loved watching the news and National Geographic."
Ralph is survived by: his wife, Carlene, of Mountain Home; his sons, Ralph Young, Jr. and his wife, Pat, of Ware, Mass., John Young, Kenneth Young, and Patrick Young and his wife, Lana, all of Mountain Home; his daughters, Carrie Noe, Skye Young, and Veronica Young, all of Mountain Home; his sisters, Charlotte Althouse and her husband, Charence, Freda Fisher and her husband, John, and his brother, Jake Ewing, all of Pennsylvania; 15 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, his brother, Bill Young, his daughter, Kathryn, and one grand-daughter.
