Friends group decides to expand its focus
Dear editor:
In response to Sandy Pitts letter; I would like to thank her for her concern but also clarify several things.
First of all, nine years ago when the Museum was re-activated, it was under the leadership of Sheryle Landon, Deb Neeley and others, as well as myself. We were assisted by many volunteers and the community responded until it was necessary to get a part-time employee (Doris Walters and then later Nancy Campbell).
Again, the museum activities increased to the point, that with the city's help, an executive director was hired.
This necessitated a whole new organizational re-structuring.
The group of volunteers known as the "Friends of Museum" was disbanded to work as individuals under the various new committees established at the museum.
We (FOM) were disappointed at first, but then realized we could expand and work for the community. We have elected to call ourselves: "Friends and Neighbors of Mountain Home" and have made our group available to help with any city or community function.
We invite anyone to join us as the town moves forward in the coming years.
It was a privilege to help bring the museum where it is today. Nancy Marshall (executive director) is doing a fine job at the museum with new innovative ideas and direction.
We are looking forward to celebrating the Carnegie Library (Currently Museum) Centennial Celebration Monday, June 30.
There were supposedly 300 citizens in attendance at the opening of the Library in 1908. Hopefully, our community will show the same enthusiasm in 2008.
